About me and my work Zoë Day was born in 1974 and grew up in Buckingham, where she attended the Royal Latin School. She began her art career studying at Nene College and then Fashion at Nottingham Trent University. Predominantly painting commissions to order she has a broad portfolio ranging from portraits, botanical illustrations, modern abstract to impressionism. With an eye on fashion, Zoë likes to produce work that is personal to the client, in-keeping with their home design and beautiful to look at. Zoë is a member of various local art groups including BAFA, Jail house Art and Bucks Visual Arts. Her forthcoming exhibitions are listed in the News section of this site. I am experienced and skilled in replicating works of art and would be happy to reproduce any art work you want! Naturally there are some pieces that would take much longer than others i.e. A ‘Rembrandt’ or ‘Rubens’ compared to say a ‘Monet’ or ‘Kandinski.’ Your painting will never look like a photocopy as my style naturally comes through. The great thing about having a reproduction is that you can have it in any size you wish and adjusted to suit your own personal taste. For example when I painted ‘Bonnard’s ‘ Fenetre’ the detail of the book has been changed to include the names of the client’s children. Perhaps you would want to change certain colours in the painting to include the colour of you rug or curtains?! Or something personal to you. All these things can be discussed as I have lots of ideas of what can be done to make your work totally unique! My individual work is inspired by things that make me feel good – after all who wants to look at a painting that conjures up negative emotions. I like to look at a piece of work and smile!! So I paint things I love like warm sunny places, abstracts of dancers, flowers and shoes!!! If you like any of this work and feel inspired, then I can always paint your own version – perhaps you have your own favourite pair of heels. Or maybe you’d like a fine art illustration of your favourite flowers that would look great alongside a vase of the real thing!! I love painting and drawing plants and flowers! They produce an incredibly versatile painting which could go just about anywhere in your home. What I like to offer as an extra is to be able to colour match petals / leaves, etc. to your individual taste – home furnishings. Also using background s and mounting sensitive to your own style. Portraits are very personal and whilst a good one can look amazing a bad one can be horrid! There is no middle ground. I am a perfectionist and would sooner throw away something if it wasn’t just right. In general I work from photos which you can either provide yourself or I can come to your home and take them. I like to bring the work to life and sneak in some of the client's personality, so I feel it is useful to meet with them where possible. Commissioned Landscapes and Buildings An exact copy of a house / building can often look very dull, lets face it our British weather doesn’t help there. I like to bring warmth and softness to the structure using a variety of styles and techniques and some artistic license. I particularly like to be creative with the use of sunlight to give the feeling of a ‘happy home’ with warmer tones. Creating bespoke artwork to complement your interior design This is the part of my job I enjoy the most as it not only results in a great ‘personal’ painting, but can transform a room. In discussion with the client we ascertain roughly what they are looking for to suit their space. For example they may want a contemporary piece to suit their African style living room, or perhaps fine art illustrations for a new conservatory. In some circumstances a client may have an image/photograph of something they would like to be used. Armed with as much information as possible on favourite artists, styles and themes, I then gather together as many images as possible that meet the criteria. I then visit their home with plenty of books and ideas to talk about in greater detail. During this consultation I can colour match items in the room so that the carpet, curtains, cushions, vases etc. all tie in beautifully with the painting. I may also take photographs to assist in this process. At the end of this meeting we settle on a style of painting and contents. We also decide on dimensions and materials to be used. I will then draft a small mock-up of the final painting for the client’s approval – I will e-mail this. Any changes can be made at this point and once agreed a final painting is produced. Once completed I e-mail a photograph of the final work. If required, the painting can now be mounted and framed to suit the client. I can give various framing options to complement the painting. The cost of this depends on materials and size and I will be happy to quote accordingly. I will also give a timescale for framing before personally delivering the piece of work. The results are spectacular!! Please note that this service can only be carried out within an area local to where I live, this includes in and around Bletchley, Bicester, Buckingham, Brackley, Milton Keynes, Newport Pagnell, Towcester, Stony Stratford and Winslow. The bespoke art work consultation costs £35 plus the price of the painting – see my price list. |
